QNUK Level 3 Award for Mental Health Trainers (RQF)

The QNUK Level 3 Award for Mental Health Trainers (RQF) has been developed to enable suitably qualified trainers to be able to deliver Mental Health Awareness Training sessions, including the QNUK Awards and mental Health 'First Aid' courses and qualifications.

This qualification develops knowledge and skills required to deliver training sessions related to the awareness of poor mental health and training commonly referred to as mental health first aid and psychological first aid.  

This qualification consists of the following units:

Understanding the Context of Mental Health and Wellbeing

Supporting Individuals During a Mental Health Crisis at Work

Delivering Inclusive Mental Health Training Sessions

Understanding the Context of Mental Health and Wellbeing

  • Understand the range of current legislation that applies to mental health and how it has changed over time

  • Understand the range of attitudes and perceptions of mental ill-health

  • Understand the current pattern and range of services for mental health problems and how these have evolved

  • Know common mental health disorders

  • Know how to recognise the causes and impact of stress

  • Know how to recognise the causes and impact of common mental health conditions

  • Know how to recognise and support individuals with a personality disorder

  • Know how to recognise and support individuals with Psychosis

  • Understand how individuals may use harmful strategies to cope with a mental health disorder

  • Know how to recognise and support an individual in suicidal crisis

  • Be able to support an individual with a mental health issue

  • Know the legal requirements for managing mental health in the workplace

Summary of Course:

This course is completed over 3 days and 1 evening. The online evening course is from 7pm to 10pm and covers the unit Understanding the Context of Mental Health and Wellbeing, a small portfolio of work will need to be completed in this unit . A month later the course is followed by 2 day online course which covers Supporting Individuals During a Mental Health Crisis at Work. The third day is conducted in person at a central location where each candidate will conduct a micro teach session showing their training approach mental health, this unit is called Delivering Inclusive Mental Health Training Sessions.

Completion of Course:

On successful completion candidates will be able to run their own accredited mental health training course, once they hold a training qualification such as Train the Trainer and they are affiliated with a Centre.
